Cabinetmaker

Cabinetmakers use a variety of woods and laminates to construct and repair wooden cabinets, furniture, fixtures and related products. They are employed by furniture manufacturing or repair companies, construction companies and cabinetmaking contractors, or they may be self-employed.

Frame makers are involved in the building and repairing of wooden cabinets, beds, couches, chairs and other high grade furniture. They are responsible for the designing, building and repairing of sturdy frames to be used in these various products. Great emphasis is placed on the engineering of such frames.

Joiners generally make complete products out of lumber, such as windows, frames or doors for a new building. They also build items like fitted furniture or staircases for a building. Additionally, a joiner might repair or replace worn or damaged elements of a home, such as creating a replica of an antique door.

Upholsters make and repair furniture with soft, padded textile covering features, such as armchairs, sofas and bedheads. This involves choosing, measuring, cutting, fitting and sewing fabric and leather materials. Upholsterers work on household furnishings, and in the interior of cars and aeroplanes.

A carpenter is responsible for working with wood to build and repair structures and other items and they also may have to select and source appropriate materials depending on project needs. Their duties include calculating quotes, meeting with clients and creating design plans for remodeling projects

A furniture designer is a specialized industrial design professional who is responsible for planning, testing and creating furniture. They often use wood, metal and other materials to design furnishings such as chairs, tables, bed frames and sofas.

Sawmill machine operators operate, monitor and control automated lumbermill equipment to saw timber logs into rough lumber; saw, trim and plane rough lumber into dressed lumber of various sizes; and saw or split shingles and shakes. They are employed in sawmills and planing mills.
